Manual review

Route the jobs that deserve a person to your Inbox with review rules, answer them with a formal quote, and set thresholds so the queue stays worth reading.

This article shows you how to send the jobs that need a person to your Inbox, and how to answer them before the buyer goes elsewhere. Instant quoting does not mean quoting everything automatically: it means the routine jobs answer themselves, so you have time for the ones that need you, and those arrive already measured.

Rules that route a job to you

A review rule sends a quote to review instead of pricing it automatically. A rule can look at:

  • value: a price or an order total over an amount you set;
  • size: a dimension or a volume over a limit;
  • quantity: a run larger than you want to commit to unseen;
  • material, finish or option: something unusual you would rather check;
  • a DFM finding: a specific check, when you would rather look than block the buyer.

A job that matches goes to your Inbox. The buyer is told that a person is looking at it, which is a much better experience than a wrong price or a dead form.

What you get

Everything about the job in one place: the part, viewable; the exact configuration and version; the price the engine would have given; and the buyer with their history. You do not have to open an attachment and reconstruct the context.

Answer a review

  1. Open the quote in the Inbox.
  2. Adjust any line, add a note and set an expiry date.
  3. Send it. The buyer receives a link, and can download it as a PDF with your terms on it.
  4. The buyer accepts from the link, and what they accept is exactly what you sent.

Speed matters more than polish

A buyer who was told “a person will look at this” and hears back in twenty minutes is impressed. The same buyer hearing back in two days has already ordered elsewhere.

Where to set the threshold

Start generous: review more than you think you need to, and watch what you approve unchanged. A job you have approved unchanged twenty times in a row is one the engine can price, so raise the threshold past it. A review queue you skim without reading is worse than no review queue.
