Waterjet cutting machine guide
Every setting that lives on a Waterjet cutting machine - what it is, what it does to a price, and what a typical value looks like. This mirrors the machine editor field for field.
A machine in Quotometry is a real machine in your shop. It carries its own hourly rate, its own build volume and its own speeds, and a part is priced on the machine it would actually run on - not on an average of everything you own.
You can have as many as your plan allows, and several configurations can share them through the Library. If you buy another one of the same model, copy it and change the name.
Every setting on this page
These are in the same order as the editor, with the same help text. Each one has an anchor, and the ? beside a field in your console links straight to it - so if you are reading this because you clicked one, the setting you were looking at is highlighted.
Machine: capability & motion
Cuts metalscuts_metalbasic
Whether this machine takes metal sheet.
Price: A material is offered only on machines that can cut it.
Typical: on.
Cuts non-metalscuts_non_metalbasic
Whether this machine takes plastics, wood, glass, stone or rubber.
Price: A material is offered only on machines that can cut it.
Typical: on.
Thickest sheetmax_thickness_mmbasic
The thickest sheet this machine cuts.
Price: Thicker rows of the thickness table are cut on another machine or not at all.
Typical: 100-200 mm.
Cut speed factorspeed_factor_pctcalibratable
This machine's cut speed relative to the thickness tables.
Price: Cut time is divided by it: 125 % cuts a fifth faster and charges less machine time.
Typical: 100 %.
This is one of the numbers the calibration tool can fit from jobs you have already run, so you do not have to guess it.
Rapid traverserapid_mm_min
Head speed between cuts.
Price: Divides the estimated travel between cuts.
Typical: 8 000-20 000 mm/min.
Corner slowdowncorner_slowdown_pctcalibratable
Extra cut time on drawings dense with corners and short entities, at most.
Price: Detailed drawings never reach full speed; this is how much longer they take than straight lines would.
Typical: 60-100 %.
This is one of the numbers the calibration tool can fit from jobs you have already run, so you do not have to guess it.
Half-slowdown densitycorner_half_density_per_m
Entities per metre of path at which half the corner slowdown applies.
Price: Lower values slow down simpler drawings too.
Typical: 10 per metre.
Vector engraving speed (0 = none)vector_engrave_mm_min
Speed of vector engraving and scoring. 0 means this machine does not engrave, and engrave layers are reported and left out.
Price: Engraved length divided by this is machine time.
Typical: 0 (no etching).
Raster engraving rate (0 = none)raster_cm2_min
Area filled per minute when raster engraving. 0 means this machine does not raster engrave.
Price: Engraved area divided by this is machine time.
Typical: 0.
Slat pitchslat_pitch_mm
Spacing of the bed slats the sheet rests on.
Price: No direct price effect: pieces smaller than this are flagged, because they can fall through or tip.
Typical: 50-100 mm.
Sheet handlingsheet_handling_min
Loading a sheet and unloading the skeleton and the parts, per sheet.
Price: Charged once per sheet and shared by every part nested on it.
Typical: 10-20 min.
Machine time per sheet changesheet_change_min
Time the machine stands while sheets are changed; short with a shuttle table.
Price: Charged as machine time once per sheet.
Typical: 5-15 min.
